The Sit Happens approach

Dog training for everyday life.

From a new puppy learning the basics to a dog struggling with leash manners, every dog and family starts somewhere different. We build a personalized plan around your goals, teach skills step by step, and help you carry them into everyday life.

Our work starts with clear guidance and rewards for the choices we want to see. As your dog learns, we focus on consistency, accountability, and a relationship built on trust.

About Sit Happens

Meet Joshua, our head trainer.

Joshua is a certified canine handler and trainer. He and his canine partner, Cali, are a certified explosives detection team through American K-9 Interdiction (AK9I).

Josh is currently enrolled in the 24-week Master Dog Trainer Program at Highland Canine’s School for Dog Trainers and is set to graduate in December 2026. The program combines classroom learning with hands-on work in behavior modification, police K9 training, service dog training, and search and rescue.

Highland Canine’s school lists licensure through the North Carolina Board of Community Colleges and the Alabama Community College System, along with regulation by the Texas Workforce Commission. Josh brings his handler experience and continuing education to practical plans for the dogs and families we work with here in Virginia.
